Missing teeth can make eating, speaking, and smiling harder than it should be. At Rock Ridge Dental Esthetics, Dr. Jeremy Louk offers dental implants that look natural and feel strong. An implant is a lasting way to replace a single tooth, several teeth, or even a full smile. Our team uses gentle techniques and modern technology to plan your care. We take time to listen, answer questions, and build a treatment plan that fits your life. If you want a tooth replacement that stays put and looks real, dental implants may be a great choice.

What are Dental Implants

A dental implant is a small post that replaces the root of a missing tooth. It is usually made of medical-grade titanium, a material used safely in many parts of the body. In some cases, a ceramic post may be an option. The implant goes in the jawbone, where the bone grows around it and holds it firmly in place. This process is called osseointegration. Once the implant is secure, a connector piece called an abutment is added. Then a custom crown, bridge, or denture attaches to the abutment to complete your smile.

Dental implants are different from removable dentures or traditional bridges. They stand on their own and do not rely on nearby teeth for support. Because they sit in the bone like real roots, they help keep the jawbone strong and can protect your face shape over time. With good care, implants can last for many years. They look natural, feel stable, and let you chew with confidence.

Types of Dental Implants

Single tooth implant: If you are missing one tooth, a single implant with a custom crown replaces only that tooth. There is no need to grind down healthy teeth to hold a bridge. The crown is shaped and shaded to blend with your smile.

Implant-supported bridge: If you are missing several teeth in a row, two or more implants can hold a bridge in place. This spreads the chewing force across the implants and keeps pressure off the natural teeth.

Implant-supported denture: If you are missing most or all of your teeth, implants can anchor a full denture. There are two main styles. A removable “snap-in” overdenture uses a few implants and special attachments, so the denture is stable but can still be taken out for cleaning. A fixed full-arch bridge (often called “All-on-4” or “Teeth in a Day” when conditions allow) is secured to several implants and stays in place. Many patients like the comfort and freedom these options provide.

Immediate implants and temporaries: In some cases, an implant can be placed the same day a tooth is removed. A temporary tooth may also be placed right away for looks while you heal. This depends on bone quality and overall health.

Mini dental implants: For some patients with thin bone, small-diameter (mini) implants can help stabilize a denture. Dr. Louk will explain if this is a good option for your needs.

Support procedures: If you do not have enough bone, a bone graft or sinus lift can help prepare the area for a strong, long-lasting implant. These treatments are common and help improve results.

What to Expect

Your first visit is a friendly conversation and a careful exam. Dr. Louk will learn about your goals and health history. We take digital X-rays and, when needed, a 3D scan to measure your bone and plan exact implant placement. We will review your options, timeline, and costs so you can choose what feels right.

Before surgery, we make sure your gums are healthy and your mouth is clean. If a tooth needs to be removed, we can plan that step too. On placement day, we numb the area fully. Many patients feel only mild pressure. If you are anxious, ask about comfort options. The implant post is placed with precise guides. Often, this takes less time than you might expect. If a temporary tooth is part of your plan, we will place it before you leave so you can smile right away.

Healing begins as soon as you go home. Most patients return to normal routines in a day or two. Mild soreness is common and can be managed with simple pain relief and an ice pack. You will follow a soft-food diet for a short time and keep the area clean as we show you. Over the next several weeks, the bone bonds to the implant. This creates a strong base for your new tooth or teeth.

When the implant is stable, we place the abutment and take a digital scan or impression. Our lab crafts your custom crown, bridge, or denture to match your bite and smile. At the final visit, we attach your new restoration and make small adjustments so it feels just right. We will show you how to brush and floss around your implant and how to care for the gums. Many patients like using a water flosser to keep the area extra clean.

Follow-up visits are simple. We check the tissues, confirm your bite, and polish your restoration. Most implant plans take a few months from start to finish, but timelines can vary based on healing and any support procedures. We will keep you informed at every step so there are no surprises.

Benefits of Dental Implants

  • Look and feel natural, blending with your smile and face
  • Chew your favorite foods with strength and comfort
  • Help protect jawbone and face shape by replacing the tooth root
  • Keep nearby teeth stable and avoid grinding them for a bridge
  • Improve speech compared to loose or shifting dentures
  • Stay put when you talk, laugh, and eat—no slipping
  • Easy daily care with brushing, flossing, and regular checkups
  • Long-lasting solution with a strong success rate
  • Support confidence and overall quality of life

Many people say their implant feels like a natural tooth. Because it is anchored in bone, it spreads chewing force in a healthy way. This helps your bite and can reduce stress on other teeth. With routine cleanings and good home care, implants can serve you well for years.

Are Dental Implants Right for You

Most healthy adults are good candidates. Good gum health and enough bone are important. If you have been missing a tooth for a long time, a bone graft may help. If you smoke or have diabetes, we will talk about ways to support healing. Dr. Louk will guide you with honest advice and a clear plan that fits your goals.
